From the Case Files: The Wise Client Protected by his Uninsured Motorist Coverage
In this week’s “From the Case Files” segment, we’re discussing a recent case victory. The facts are somewhat unusual.
My client, a wonderful man who lives in the San Fernando Valley, was pulling into his driveway one morning after synagogue. As he was pulling into his driveway, a driver from across the street lost control of his vehicle. That driver ran a red light, veered past the oncoming lane of traffic, and slammed into my client’s car. The force of the collision caused my client to momentarily lose consciousness. He was transported by ambulance to the hospital.
The Los Angeles Police Department arrived and investigated this serious crash. They determined that the driver who lost control of his vehicle was at fault. Worse, this driver did not have a valid auto insurance policy. My client was seriously injured and his car was totaled.
The good news? My wise client maintained uninsured motorist coverage under his own auto insurance policy. We were able to obtain the policy limits in this case. His insurance company compensated him for the total loss of his vehicle, as well as for his injuries and pain and suffering.
The lesson of this case? Be like my wise client! There are millions of drivers in California who are driving around every day either with no insurance or with not enough insurance. By carrying uninsured motorist coverage, you are protected in the event you get hit or injured by an uninsured or underinsured driver. What happened to my client in this case involved unusual but scary facts. Nevertheless, this client was protected against the very real possibility of being hit by someone who was not insured.
