LAPD releases 2024 hit-and-run stats

The Los Angeles Police Department released its annual hit-and-run statistics last week.

The good news is that hit-and-runs causing injuries decreased last year. Hit and runs are also down from January 1st of 2025 as compared to the same time in 2024. There are approximately 7,500 injury-causing hit-and-runs in Los Angeles each year.

However, most of the time, hit-and-run drivers are not caught. Two weeks ago, a Lamborghini driving speeding up Highland Avenue in Hancock Park collided with a Toyota, killing the passenger. The Lamborghini driver has still not yet been apprehended.

My office has extensive experience dealing with Los Angeles hit-and-run crashes. I’ve discussed this issue many times.

The most important thing you can do to protect yourself from a hit-and-run is to carry adequate uninsured motorist coverage on your auto policy. I discussed this more thoroughly in this post last year.

If you or a friend or loved one were injured in a Los Angeles car or hit-and-run crash, my office is ready to assist, 24/6.

Be safe!
