FDA To Decide on Ban for Vaping Products

A federal court is granting The Food and Drug Administration’s request to extend the deadline on whether it will issue a nationwide ban on vaping products. The request for this extension comes as a result of the Coronavirus pandemic that has gripped the world and especially the United States.

The Centers for Disease Control advised consumers to cease using vaping products and electronic cigarettes several months ago. Attorneys General for several states, including California, have sued e-cigarette companies alleging they are misleading consumers and lulling them into using their products by promising that they are a safer alternative to cigarettes. We have previously discussed that issue here.

In addition to the FDA review, Juul Labs is facing financial difficulties. This week it announced it is laying off close to 1,000 employees. The company says the layoffs are not as a result of the pandemic. Many of Juul’s flavored vaping products were removed from shelves several months ago. That comes in response to the FDA’s earlier actions barring the sale of all fruit and mint-flavored e-cigarettes cartridges which government officials claim are aimed towards underage consumers.

Time will tell if the FDA issues an all-out ban on all vaping products in addition to the current ban on flavored e-cigarettes. Sadly, many teenagers have been hospitalized as a result of vaping, some with severe lung damage.

If you were injured as a result of vaping in Los Angeles or Orange County, contact an attorney to help you decide whether you have a case against e-cigarette makers. The Rabbi Lawyer is ready to assist, 24/6.
