Motorcycle Crash Statistics You Should Know

As a Los Angeles motorcycle accident attorney, I've represented many people who were hurt in motorcycle crashes. And, as I've discussed before, California is unique for motorcycle crashes because it is ranked 2nd in the entire country for motorcycle crash deaths. The National Safety Council has published some additional statistics.  Although they are not unique to California, they do shed light on a serious problem nationwide.Motorcycles comprise only 3% of all registered motor vehicles.  But motorcyclists accounted for 13% of all traffic fatalities in 2016, the most recent year for which the stats are available. Also, 91% of motorcyclists who were killed in a crash were males.  A high percentage (26%) of motorcyclists killed in collisions were alcohol impaired. In virtually all Los Angeles and Hancock Park motorcycle accident cases I've handled, the driver of the other car was at fault for colliding with my client.  Motorcycles are easy to miss, especially while turning left and while changing lanes.Motorcycle lane splitting is also legal in California, and has been for a number of years.  Drivers should be extra cautious and remember that motorcycles are allowed to split lanes provided that they follow basic speed rules.Los Angeles and the surrounding beach cities are ground zero for motorcycle accidents.  The warm, sunny weather and coastal roads all provide for a great motorcycle-riding experience.  Let's all try and share the road and watch out for our motorcyclist friends. For questions about your Los Angeles motorcycle accident, the Rabbi Lawyer is ready to assist, 24/6.
