Pedestrian & Bicyclist Deaths Hit Highs Last Year

Earlier this year, I discussed how 2016 saw an all-time high in the number of traffic fatalities in the United States.According to Consumer Reports, the number of pedestrian and bicyclist fatalities hit a record in 2016 too.Approximately 6,000 pedestrians were killed in this country as a result of being hit by a car in 2016.  Bicycle deaths hit a 25 year high with 840.Similarly, the Wall Street Journal last week reported that serious bicycle injuries are on the rise in the U.S.  A big reason for this is the increase in bike share programs in cities like New York and Beverly Hills.Bicyclists should remember to wear helmets.
