Safety Tips for Driving in the Rain!

Southern California is getting pounded by rainstorms! Is it the first of this season's El Nino? Who knows! What we do know is that there are several important safety tips Los Angeles drivers can implement for safer driving in the rain, courtesy of the California Highway Patrol and the Rabbi Lawyer!1. Check your wiper blades.  Are they in good working order, helping you maintain clearer visibility through your windshield?  The blades should be replaced about once per year.2. Are your tires in good condition?  Make sure the tread isn't worn out.  Tips 1 and 2 can be implemented as part of your regularly scheduled vehicle maintenance.3. Turn on your headlights.  Any time your wiper blades are in continuous use, the Vehicle Code requires your headlights to be turned on.4. Slow down!  Wet road conditions, especially in the first ten minutes of rainfall, can make it more difficult for your car to come to a complete stop.  Don't slam on the brakes, and give yourself plenty of room to stop to avoid slippage and hydroplaning. And don't try driving through puddles even though it's fun to watch the water spray everywhere!  The water might be too deep, and your car could get stuck, leading to dangerous consequences.5. Cut out the distractions.  Rainy weather causes more traffic.  More traffic means more stress.  It also means less time to react to last-second changes in the flow of traffic.  So keep your phone out of sight!Remember, at the end of the day, there's no such thing as an "it was raining" defense to a car accident. As with any weather conditions, we all have to exercise caution and drive reasonably and prudent, even in the rain. For questions about your Los Angeles accident case, the Rabbi Lawyer is ready to assist, 24/6!
