If You're Under 18, You NEED A Bike Helmet!

As a Los Angeles accident lawyer, one of my missions is to prevent foreseeable accidents and associated injuries. In that regard, here's something everyone should know.Anyone riding their bike who is under the age of 18 is legally required to wear a helmet in California. In fact, the Vehicle Code, which governs the use of bicycles in the State, makes it illegal for anyone under 18 to ride a bike without one.Believe it or not, the same goes for riding a scooter too.  Scooter use is on the rise, so parents should see to it that their children don't hop on without a proper-fitting helmet.Statistics show that in a collision or a fall, a rider's head is the most likely area of the body to suffer an impact.  It can take a split-second for a rider to fall and hit the pavement in a collision, God forbid.Just today I witnessed a teenager almost get hit by a car while on his bike.  Guess what?  He had no helmet.  That could've ended badly, but thankfully it didn't.  I plan to discuss some additional bike safety tips in the near future. But in the meantime, remember.  Protect yourself, your children, and anyone else who rides their bike or scooter.Put on your helmet!
